Team Teaching
Each course is team-taught by a group of two to four teachers depending on the size of course enrollment. Students have an opportunity to experience different teaching styles. Teachers collaborate closely in their teams for seamless transitions in the interest of maintaining consistency.
Compact Classes
To ensure that each student gets enough practice during class, all Chinese courses’ sections are capped at a small number of students. There are usually eight to ten students in lower-level courses (100 level courses) and six to eight students in intermediate and advanced level courses (300 and 400 levels).
Individual Sessions (个别谈话)
Each student has a 15-20-minute individual tutorial session with his or her instructor every other week. During the individual session, students can practice pronunciation and speaking, and get feedback from instructors.
Recordings (录音)
Chinese is a tonal language and tone is an integral part of the acquisition of Chinese pronunciation. To make sure that students start in the right way with their pronunciation and correct mistakes before they become fossilized, beginner-level students (100 level) are required to do recordings of texts as part of their weekly assignments. Recordings are submitted online through the course website. Teachers will listen to your recordings and give detailed feedback. We strongly encourage students to practice pronunciation with teachers during individual sessions.
